Welcome to the Cosenza & Associates, LLC, webpage for free resources! These resources are drawn from our three lines of curriculum resources for K-12 mathematics and were developed for, not aligned to, the TEKS.
The resources are sorted by the type of instruction for which they were developed.
- Direct Instruction is a type of instruction in which students are directly provided information then follow a gradual release of responsibility model in order to transition from the teacher showing them how to apply a skill to the students independently applying that skill. It is useful for teaching students to be proficient at particular skills. Our TEKS Companion Guide series of consumable, interactive student books showcases effective strategies to use with direct instruction. These are available for grades 3-8 and Algebra 1
- Performance Tasks are a type of formative assessment that you can use in your classroom. The tasks we have below are open-middle performance tasks where there is a defined problem and one correct solution. However, there are a variety of ways in which students may arrive at that solution. The performance tasks shown come from our Performing Math series of differentiated performance tasks. These are available for Grades 3-8, Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2. Performing Math tasks are available in Spanish for Grades 3-5.
- Inquiry-Based Instruction is a constructivist method where students investigate a particular relationship in order to draw conclusions about a particular concept. The 5E Instructional Model is an excellent way to structure inquiry-based instruction in your classroom and is particularly well-suited for teaching concepts. The lessons shown come from our Mission Math K12 (formerly known as STAAR® Mission Math), which contains 5E lessons that address 100% of the TEKS, as verified by Learning List, for each grade level or course. These are available for Kindergarten through Grade 8, Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2. Spanish-language support is provided for Grades K-5.
