In 2017, we debuted the Algebraic Reasoning textbook, authored by Paul Gray, Jr., Jacqueline Weilmuenster, and Jennifer Hylemon, as a full curriculum resource for the high school course, Algebraic Reasoning.

For IMRA 2024, we created a full curriculum to support the high school Algebraic Reasoning course. These new resources are comprehensive, 100% TEKS-aligned curriculum designed for powerful student learning. Approved by the Texas State Board of Education as High-Quality Instructional Materials under the IMRA 2024 cycle, this curriculum introduces a student-based learning management system where students may log in and directly access instructional materials.
What’s New in the IMRA 2024 version of Algebraic Reasoning?
Primarily, the IMRA 2024 version introduces direct digital access to instructional materials for students. We have partnered with Magic Software to provide both teacher and student logins to digital curriculum resources.

Algebraic Reasoning Course Components
The IMRA 2024 version contains multiple components that teachers may use with their students in order to teach the content in the course.
Algebraic Reasoning Teacher Course
Organized in units and lessons by flow of function families, the AR Teacher Course provides advice for instruction alongside lesson components that the teacher may use to facilitate instruction for the course.
Algebraic Reasoning Student Course
Organized in units and lessons exactly like the AR Teacher Course, the AR Student Course allows teachers to unlock the lesson components when they are ready for student viewing and use.
Algebraic Reasoning Teacher Wraparound Edition
An interactive digital (ePub) version of the AR TWE, teachers may view the teacher edition that contains answers and support for instruction regarding technology, differentiation, and emergent bilinguals. We provide additional examples in the wraparound margin.
Algebraic Reasoning Student Edition
An interactive digital (ePub) version of the AR Student Edition, students may view the content and respond to the You Try It! questions and answer the practice/homework problems online.
Algebra 1 TEKS Companion Guide
An interactive digital (ePub) version of the Algebra 1 TEKS Companion Guide provides direct instruction for Algebra 1 content that supports Algebraic Reasoning course content. Individual lessons are provided in the lessons when students need them in the AR Teacher Course and Student Course.
How Does the IMRA 2024 Version Compare to the Proclamation 2017 Version?
Proclamation 2017
Components
- Student Edition available in Print or Digital media (downloadable PDF)

Book is organized by TEKS cluster
IMRA 2024
Components
- Student Edition available in Print or online interactive media
- Teacher Wraparound Edition available in Print or online (ePub) media
- Online teacher access to ancillary materials, including additional question bank, tests, PowerPoint slides with the Example problems, and video solutions to You Try It! problems and Explain sections.
- Teacher course contains robust, high-quality guidance for teaching the course.
Course is organized by function family, beginning with Algebra 1 functions (linear, quadratic, exponential), and then Algebra 2 functions (cubic, square root, cube root, logarithmic, absolute value, rational).
How is the Algebraic Reasoning Teacher Course Structured?
When schools began implementing the course in 2017, we received a lot of feedback about course sequencing. We studied different sequences alongside district leaders and teachers and took a lot of their feedback into account when planning the IMRA 2024 version of the course. Thus, the teacher course follows what has become a prevailing sequence of focusing on the Algebra 1 function families in the fall semester (linear, quadratic, and exponential) then addressing Algebra 2 function families in the late fall and spring semester (cubic, square root, cube root, logarithmic, absolute value, and rational functions).
First Semester
- Unit 1: Function Patterns
- Unit 2: Linear Functions
- Unit 3: Linear Function Operations
- Unit 4: Quadratic Functions
- Unit 5: Exponential Functions
- Unit 6: Cubic Functions
Second Semester
- Unit 7: Polynomial Function Operations
- Unit 8: Inverse Functions
- Unit 9: Radical Functions and Logarithmic Functions
- Unit 10: Absolute Value Functions and Rational Functions
- Unit 11: Function Operations
- Unit 12: Matrices and Matrix Operations
